2025
Library Gala

Welcome to the West End Secondary School 2025 Art Gala, where creativity meets education. Join us in appreciating the beauty of art while supporting the library.

A History of the Library

WESS has had the space available for a library since it's founding. Over the years, the "library" has shifted between room 308 - some might know it as the rec room - and room 122 on the first floor. Both rooms are now being used as classrooms with books and broken shelves pushed to the back and forgotten.

In previous years, there have been several attempts at purchasing shelves and organizing books but with little success. Recently, books that were previously moved up from the first floor library have been moved back down in an attempt to create something at least resembling a library in a first floor seminar classroom. However even in this room, there is much work to be done. Shelves are broken and only half filled with books and the room appears barren and lifeless.

It is our goal with the Library Gala to make the library into a cheerful and bright cornerstone of our school that inspires learning, creativity, and wonder.

The Current Library

Overview

Our Goal

Our goal with the gala is to raise $25,000 to support the purchase of shelves, desks, chairs, study resources, and books. This money will be committed to the first floor library room and, through the use of student and staff volunteers, transfer the books from room 308 back down to the first floor library. This will help to improve the look of room 308 and prepare it for a future renovation project.

With this gala, whilst our first and foremost goal is to revamp the library, our second biggest goal is to showcase the creativity and excellence of the students at WESS. WESS's community and engagement are one of it's strongest pillars and hosting an art gala will allow for the artistic abilities of all of WESS's students, both middle and high-school, to foster that sense of community and connect parents to the talent of their students.

What to Expect

Student art pieces will be framed and on display in the blackbox while parents walk around and engage in a silent auction. There will be a live jazz band and a photographer on site. Drinks, appetizers, and desserts will be served.

Auction and Artwork Details

Artwork will be available for purchase in a silent auction during the Gala. It will also be available for viewing on this website in the weeks leading up the event. Artists will receive a commission if their artwork sells during the Gala and all artists with artwork present in the Gala will receive compensation, regardless of whether their piece sells. All artwork that doesn't sell or is contributed but isn't used in the Gala will find a home in the revamped library or will be donated to the Beautify WESS Project conducted by ASPIRA at WESS where it will be hung in a classroom or in the hallway.

Artwork will be already framed and ready to hang with a frame that compliments the nature of the piece.

Location and Date

The Art Gala will take place on May 28th from 6:00 - 9:00pm. It will take place in WESS's Blackbox.
